LAND - KREIS - GEMEINDE
The joint project "LAND - KREIS - GEMEINDE. Klimaschutz planen, auf Wirtschaftlichkeit und Wertschöpfung setzen" has been running since November 2018, funded by the German government's National Climate Initiative (NKI). The aim of the project is to link rural regional development, value creation and sustainability, focussing on the role of rural districts. Rural districts can act as intermediaries between municipalities, regional stakeholders and the state and federal levels and, with regard to climate protection and sustainability, help to promote and enable "climate protection business models", i.e. the increase in local value creation through regional climate protection measures. By means of Regional Governance, climate protection is to be organised and tested as a successful joint project with added value for rural regions in the German multi-level system.
In practice, this joint project focusses on project planning. 12 rural districts from 4 federal states as well as selected municipalities and regional stakeholders are supported in the design and implementation of specific climate protection projects using a project planning tool (climate canvas) and project coaching and have the opportunity to network in regional conferences. These projects focus on the areas of e-mobility in rural areas, sustainable neighbourhood concepts, resource-saving local energy supply, sustainable climate protection concepts and sustainable event management.
In 2021, the Climate Canvas manual (project planning tool) was published and discussed with participants in a webinar. The second round of the regional dialogue was launched in autumn and four regional dialogues were held in Brandenburg, Thuringia, Schleswig-Holstein and Rhineland-Palatinate.
In the first half of 2022, further coaching sessions will be organised with all participating districts and the short study on success factors for regional development and climate protection will be published by the project managers Prof. Dr Böcher and Dr Zeigermann. On 23 June 2022, there will be a final conference of the project with impulses, discussions and workshops on climate protection and regional development in Berlin.
