(De-)Democratisation of Expertise in Environmental and Sustainability Policy

The research project (De-)Democratisation of Expertise in Environmental and Sustainability Policy is led and conducted by Prof. Dr Böcher and examines the demands and challenges that scientific expertise in environmental and sustainability policy must meet in order to achieve practical effects. It also looks at the divisions and connections between science, politics and society and the question of who should have influence over sustainability research. The thesis of a "death of expertise" in the age of fake news, lay knowledge through social media and possible solutions such as the "authoritarian environmental state" will be critically examined.

This project runs from 1 October 2018 to 31 December 2022 and is funded by the budget of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
